Zine Project

In-person EAPI panelists

Did you Eat Yet?

During EAPI’s first staff retreat, the staff had the pleasure of meeting and learning from Eunsoo Jeong, a Korean-American woman, artist, immigrant, and founder of Koreangry. As she shared her art and resilience, the staff of EAPI were inspired and decided to produce their own zine dedicated to celebrating our own stories and lived experiences. Thus, “Did you Eat Yet?” was born.

“Did you Eat Yet?” is a zine that features a collection of stories, poems, and artworks created by undocumented Asian immigrants. As you flip through each page and dive into the hearts of the undocuAPI community, we implore you to expand your perspective and re-examine your understanding of the immigrant experience. You will see that each and every story, poem, and artwork is a labor of love that expresses not only our collective vulnerability but also our strength. Each artist adds a beautiful and complex layer to our understanding of what it means to be an undocumented Asian immigrant youth.

Our collective zine serves as a reminder that the undocumented community is not a monolith and despite our differences, we are inextricably bound together through our shared experiences of oppression in the fight for social justice.

As we continue our fight for justice, it is our hope that this zine serves you as a source of strength and healing, a gentle yet firm reminder that you are not alone.

This Zine Represents…

In-person Zine Launch Event
On Sunday, March 12th, Empowering API hosted the official launch of their collective zine titled, "Did You Eat Yet?" featuring stories, poems, and artworks created by undocumented Asian immigrants living in the United States.

"Did You Eat Yet?" seeks to diversify the narrative of undocumented immigrants in the United States and promote understanding between different racial and ethnic communities.

For our chosen family, loyal friends, loving pets, supportive mentors and fierce community organizers throughout the country,

all whom shown us nothing but kindness.

Thank you to the Pilipino Workers Center, APALA, and UCLA Labor Center for graciously lending us your resources to make this dream a reality.

Clichés aside, we could not have done this without you.

Virtual Zine Launch Event

Following the success of our first in-person zine launch, we realized a need to expand our Zine outreach efforts outside of the Southern California area.

In recognition of AAPI Heritage month and due to popular demand, we created a virtual launch of the "Did you Eat Yet" collective zine.
